The 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup was the 12th Cricket World Cup a quadrennial One day International (ODI) cricket tournament contested by men’s national teams and organised by the International cricket council(ICC). It was hosted between 30 May to 14 July across eleven venues in England and Wales with the tournament being the fifth time that England had hosted the World Cup while for Wales .
England won their first ever World cup by defeating new Zealand but for Me Sorry! England only ‘won’ by a serious umpiring error!!
- It’s a dumb rule that permits a deflection off the bat to be considered as an overthrow. An overthrow reflects poor fielding and SHOULD be penalized. Anyway, a rule it still is until changed.
- A dishonest batsman could easily ‘Accidently’ create such a situation. There is no suggestion that Stokes is anything but an honest batsman. It WAS an accident. But it should NOT have cost the Kiwis The World Cup
- The batsmen had not crossed for their second run when Guptill threw in from the boundary. So the ‘penalty’ should have been 1 + 4 runs, NOT 2 + 4. Only the COMPLETED run counted, UNDER THE RULES. So, at the completion of 50 overs, England were 1 run short, NOT drawn. The Kiwis, under the Rules, won without the extra ‘Super’ overs.
Felt really bad for new Zealand they were the deserved team to win the 2019 world cup!!!
